Technology Grows and Progress Shows

The year 2018 is not even comparable to the early years of 2000 in terms of technology. Over the years people seem to always have some new idea or adjustment they would like to make to make technology better. Back then you were lucky if you had a phone that could send text messages. Nowadays people are thinking about implanting new technology into your body and are driving hands free. Technology is a huge part of this world and keeps growing by the second.

During the early 2000s cell phones just started developing to where we see them today. The first cell phones or smartphones with a keyboard and touchscreen display were introduced. These phones began with the availability to download applications in addition to the typing keyboard and the touchscreen. Later phones came out with the first introduction to “fully functional calendars, FM radio, Bluetooth, WAP and GPRS web browser capabilities and color screen options”. Phones with built-in cameras and 3G internet connections were also introduced and began to grow and further develop during this time period. Because of all the new features introduced to these phones, it made it necessary to implement a bigger storage capacity for texting, music, and other data. Although these phones didn’t allow you to do much compared to what we can do today it was just the beginning of the growth of cell phone technology.

In the article Why You’re Probably Getting a Microchip Implant Someday by Haley Weiss, she talks about how technology is advancing tremendously. Weiss talks about a 20-year veteran of the tech industry by the name of McMullan who implants microchips in the human body. His main purpose for this unique feature is to function well and for multiple uses and to not be a concern to human health. McMullan also plans to have people store their medical information with the implant device and have the available GPS tracker on it so that it will help families track relatives with dementia. This device might seem expensive because of the technical abilities it will have but McMullan plans to make this item affordable for many people.

Although a small device implanted in your body may be a neat modern idea research says that “90 percent of Americans were uncomfortable with the technology”. People question the necessity of this implant but one researcher says “People don’t get them, because they’re not useful enough yet, but because there’s not a market, the devices [remain] relatively unchanged”. This is very true and I believe many people will want to get these implants done in the future. I think this feature will become a normal thing to have in the future because it will make our life easier and safer. The GPS tracking system McMullan plans on implementing definitely raises a red flag to a lot of people. People don’t want to be tracked every second of their life and if they were tracked they will feel threatened and edgy about what they do with their life because they’re being “watched”. This idea is good but definitely should give you the option and control of how your chip can be used and accessed for your personal protection. McMullan’s plan to make this item inexpensive and affordable will allow more people to equip and try out the implant for themselves. It would also help spread the product out to other people that see others using the device. This new idea will soon adapt and become a big part of the future.
